Many Employers nationwide are aware they are required to have labor posters in places where their employees congregate. There are many states that have poster requiring them to include minimum wage rates, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) notices, Department of Labor (DOL) regulations and other Federal laws. Employers are required to have certain labor posters placed in certain areas of their locations. There are also certain posters that must be placed and actively updated in areas where employees congregate and where candidates/applicants can see them. These Labor posters are required for many Employers and in many industries. Poster compliance is one of the easiest compliance regulations that can be high risk and the easiest to avoid. If you include Employers with federal government contracts, you add more layers of regulations and poster compliance. Poster compliance can be a challenge to manager especially with the fines and penalties that have doubled since 2016. There is a high expectation by the regulatory agencies that Employers should make it their business to be aware of all workplace regulations. Ignorance will not be an excuse for non-compliance of these regulations. In 2017, there were more than 25 updates to laws, regulations and labor posters. There have been updates to the minimum wage in many states and local counties/ordinances impacting multi-state locations. It is critical for Employers to ensure compliance with all the current and updated regulations and avoid the fines and penalties that result in non-compliance. Poster compliance has historically been low in priority for some Employers but since 2016, the regulatory agencies have stepped up their efforts to ensure Employers are accountable for ensuring employees are aware of their rights and protections under the many workplace laws.
