Objectives of the Presentation

  • Gain an understanding of the importance of risk assessments in the decision-making process for design solutions
  • How lean principles may be utilized to improve healthcare facility design
Why Should you Attend
When planning space changes such as renovation, expansion, additions or new construction, a more thorough analysis of workflow adjacencies is needed. In order to accomplish that, the first step is to understand Lean Principles that relate to the built environment such as waste, visual management, flow, work cells, and 5S. Healthcare environments are inherently laden with risk; therefore, risk assessments are also needed as part of the design process. In fact, the 2014 "Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities" by the facility guidelines institute now requires a "Safety Risk Assessment" during design.
