This session will cover the basic definition of "Exempt Status" and then look at the specific subcategories of the "White Collar" exemptions. We will look at the 3 tests for exempt status, some of the common errors employers make, what are some types of permitted deductions from an exempt employee and what are some of the effects of improper deductions. The Fair Labor Standards Act defines what type of job duties would qualify as being exempt from overtime pay as well as other "benefits" for employees.

Martin Levy is a Human Resources Professional having over 30 years of experience with major corporations across several industries including finance, retail, healthcare, and aerospace. Prior to becoming a trainer and consultant, Martin was the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for a major regional financial institution. Martin has consulted for many organizations in Southern California in all areas of Human Resources, such as; Policy/Handbook Development, Compliance, Salary and Compensation Systems, Hiring and Termination practices, Benefit Plan reviews, Job Description, Analysis, Dispute Resolution, Progressive Discipline, and Workplace Harassment.

Martin Levy is currently the President of Human Resources 4U, a locally owned, full service Human Resources consulting company. Martin attended Brooklyn College in New York City and graduated with a BS in Chemistry. He then went on to attend Cal State Long Beach and graduated with a MA in Vocational Education. He has also successfully completed the Senior Profession in Human Resources certification. Martin is also a certified Management Trainer for various National organizations. He has served as adjunct faculty for the University of Redlands, Keller Graduate School of Management, and the University of Phoenix and has published articles in Personnel Journal, Manage Magazine, and Workspan magazine as well as several local publications.
